What purpose do primary documents serve in history? How has the world of primary documents changed in the past two decades? What impact will this have on the "telling" of history?

Primary documents are like records of historical events. They serve as answers about history that we can't find out any other way. Primary documents can help us understand things from hisory better. Primary documents give us a lot of information. If we didn't have primary documents we wouldn't know much about history, therefore primary documents are a big part of history today. In the past two decades we have found better, more efficent ways to document historical events and make primary sources. We have technology and intelligence. We have the internet where there are primary documents all over. We have video's that record historical events. We now have many ways to record historical events. This will impact the "telling" of history in a good way. People of the future will have better ways to find historical documents and have more efficent primary documents. It will be simpler to find primary documents through technology.

The less fortunate, the poor.

The poor really inspire me. They inspire me to always be greatful for what I have, to not always complain because i've got it way better then they do, to focus on what I do have and not on what I don't have. They also inspire me to one day make a good amount of money so that I can give to the less fortunate. The poor inspire me to stay in school, go to college and find a good job so I won't be one of the less fortunate when I grow up because I know I can become poor too. I want to be able to give to the poor because it isn't always their fault that they became poor. I think the poor should be a inspiration to others too. It should inspire people to want to be successful, inspire them to focus on the good in their life and to want to give to the poor, the less fortunate.

What does it mean to be American?

Being an American means being free, able to speak your mind and being treated equally no matter what race you are. It also means being your own individual, being able to pick your religion and not be judged. Being an American means you are your own person, free to do whatever you believe in. Having opportunity, religious freedom and having the chance to reach your goal without government interference. You can be anyone to be an American, you even have the choice to be an American or not. Being an American simply means being free.

Discuss how culture influences your lives: How has culture made you the people that you are today? How different would you be had you grown up in a different culture?

Culture influences almost every aspect of our lives. The way we dress, the foods' we eat, the music we listen too and many other things. My culture shaped me into the person I am today. My Spanish culture made me into a strong willed, independent young woman. My culture influenced everything I do today, from what I eat to the way I dress. I believe I would be a very different person. I wouldn't be the same Alissa. I'd be influenced by different people who may believe in different things, such as religion. I'd eat different foods', I'd probably dress a different way and I may have a different attitude towards thing. I'd be like a whole different person.

My inspirtaion, my sister.

My sister inspires me, a lot. She inspires me always stay strong, don't give up, she inspires me to belive in myself. She probably doesn't know this but she does. Why does she inspire me? She inspires me because she's always stood strong, she never gave up and she believes in herself. She is such a strong woman even though she has had a rough time. She has gotten pregnant at a very young age, had to grow up fast and support herself and her kids when she was still a kid herself. I watched her go through all of this. I seen her break down sometimes but she always got back up and stood strong. She at times wanted to give up but she never did. She sometimes felt like she couldn't do anything right but in the end believing in herself is what got her through everything. She is such an inspiration. She inspires me to be the best woman I can be. She is not only my inspiration but someone I look up too. I just hope to be as strong as she is.

Inspiration Blog. I just want to be successful.

Something that inspires me is becoming successful in life in the future. I just want to be successful. My definition of a successful life is being rich, happy, hard working, many fun times and having lots of love around. Success inspires me to try and do well in school, it also inspires to push myself to do more things that will prepare myself for the future. Such as a part time job, college courses, after school activities, having fun experiences in life and even; having love for others and being loved. Success pushes me to always do good, don't do wrong. It pushes me to stay on my track, do well in school, stay good at home and not do anything that would mess my track up; like doing drugs, skipping school, not doing homework or even just disrespecting my family. Little things like that would mess up my dream of being successful. Success inspires me to do good, stay good, be good.

Select the Right from the Bill of Rights (first 10 Amendements on pp 199-200) that you think is most important. Explain why you think so.

I think Amendment 1 is the most important. I believe it is the most important amendment because it protects a persons freedom that is living in the United States, it also protects our civil liberties. It is stating that we have religious freedom, freedom of speech and the right to assemble and petition against the government. Basically we can believe in any religion, we can say just about anything we want to say and we can petition against the government if we do not agree or like what they are doing without having any consequences because it is our right as a U.S citizen. This amendment is what changed America and made us independent and free. Without this amendment I don't believe America would be what it is today. A free, independent country. This amendment is what makes America, America.

Select a quote from pg. 120. Do you agree or disagree with it?

"I hope you will not consider yourself as commander-in-chief of your own house, but be convinced, that there is such a thing as equal command."

The quote I selected is the quote by Lucy Flucker Knox, to her husband Henry Knox, upon his return as a hero from the Revolutionary War. I agree with this quote. I believe there should be an equal command. Everyone should be equal and in charge of themselves. There should not be one person in command or leading. One person should not feel as though they are a commander at all times. One should be in charge of themselves and lead their own lives. I also believe that the government should not be in charge of the people because it seems to me that they are. We, the people, should be in charge of ourselves and lead our own lives as individuals and as our own leaders and commanders.

In your opinion what made the declaration of indepence successful and/or a failure?

In my opinion the declaration of indepence was successful. The declaration of indepence brings togheter our country and makes our government a well rounded one. The declaration of indepence set America free from other colonies and let us be a colony run by the people.

My favorite part of the declaration of indepence is the Declaration of natural rights. "..it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government...". It is our right to abolish the government if we feel as though they are not allowing us our rights or protecting our rights. I believe this part of the Declaration of indepence made it the most successful because it is stating the rights of the people. We are all independent and free because of the Declaraion of independence. But I believe we are only free from other countries, we are still controlled by the government in my opinion. Therefore we are not truly free.

What are your feelings/thoughts/opinions about your groups proposals on Colombus Day?

I agree with all of my groups proposals for Colombus day. I feel as though Colombus Day should not be celebrated but it should be celebrated as a different holiday. We should be celebrating the founding of America and not the actions of Colombus. My group and I focused on the many wrong doings of Colombus. I agree with my groups proposal but in my opinion our new holiday is kind of confusing because we are still kind of celebrating Colombus since he was the first to record America. But other then that I believe our proposal is a good  one.

What does it say about a country to support a person/holiday such as Colombus?

I think celebrating a holiday such as Columbus Day is very wrong. I believe it's demonstrating to people that it's okay to celebrate the deaths of thousands or even millions of people. We shouldn't be celebrating the actions of Colombus because many of the things he did was terrible. For instance he made Native Americans into slaves, sent them to Europe and on the way there many of them died. He used people to increase wealth. I do understand the fact that if he hadn't recorded America I may not be here today, so why don't we celebrate the founding of America and not Colombus? I think that would be a better celebration, we would simply be celebrating the founding of America and not celebrating the horrible actions of a terrible man.
